Looking back one last time before heading into the 2007 football season, I couldn’t help but wonder how a team like the Ducks can have so much athletic ability and talent and yet end up 7-6, getting embarrassed by BYU in the Vegas Bowl.
I wondered if it was just me thinking that after the first 10-15 scripted plays of each game, the Ducks would slowly begin to crumble over the course of the game. After half time, when most coaches are making adjustments to the other teams schemes, it seemed that Oregon was still trying to find their footing.
I looked into it, and found a couple of interesting stats, that most Duck fans hope “improve” in 2007.
TURNOVERS: This one’s obvious, but worth noting. In their 7 wins they had a turnover ratio of 0. In the 6 loses, -10. Yikes.
RED ZONE PERCENTAGE (after getting within the 20 yard line, the percent of times they came away with a TD or FG): Talk about falling off as the year went a long…in August and September the Duck’s RZ% was 91%, in October it was 84% and in November a dismal 55%. (They didn’t have a percentage in December because we didn’t get within the 20 versus BYU. Nice.)

TOTAL OFFENSE: Aug/Sept they averaged 498 yards. October: 416. November: 396. December: 260.

Just some interesting numbers – and a final look back – before the 2007 season begins.
