Shooting Off Your Mouth On UW’s Post Game Show

October 23rd, 2007

For any Duck fan, it doesn’t get much better than defeating the Huskies. And there’s nothing like running all over them on their home turf. But if that’s the main course (Mmmm, good), then desert was just just a good.

As the Duck Sports News crew made the trip south (in the corporate jet, of course) we had the opportunity to listen to Seattle’s 950 KJR Husky post game show. Boy was that fun.

Dave “Softy” Mahler, Hugh Millen and Dick Beard sat around asked many questions as to the state of the Husky football program. They traded places talking each other off the cliff while fans called in with no answers.

Here’s a few of the highlights from their conversation:

  • One caller said Bellotti is the best coach in the Pac-10. He praised the Oregon offense and even went so far as to say it was a juggernaut(This, again, from a Husky fan).
  • The hosts were very impressed with how well Oregon’s receivers blocked.
  • One caller wondered why Washington doesn’t run the same offense as Oregon. The hosts joked that they should see if Oregon will help them with that: “I’m sure they can just drive down there and ask Mike for the tapes and secrets.”
  • And the best part….After debating what to do with the defense (which was, at the beginning of the season, supposed to be the teams’ strength), without really coming to any conclusions, Softy asked Dick, “Well what do you want to do? Just take all the kids on the defense out and shoot them?” Dick came back with “It’s everybody’s fault!” then added some remark about doing that, along with throwing defensive coordinator Kent Baer out there as well. Not exactly tactful in this day and age.

Talk about entertaining radio.

LOL……since most of the new duck fans don’t see this as a rivalry, I’m sure Mike would welcome Ty down to learn the spread.

my how times have changed. reminds me of the movie Trading Places with Eddy Murphy. I remember going to Husky Stadium, 19 point underdogs, hoping we could stay under the spread…

They need to ask themselves, “have the Huskies hit rock bottom yet?” I would say “no.” Ha Ha!

Oh, I live in Seattle, and it’s been the best listening to these guys this week (although I missed my favorite show, The Tyrone Willingham Show…..damn!). So on Monday, Hugh Millen suggested this to stop Dixon. On the option pitch, since the defensive end had no chance to get either Dixon or Stewart, that the DE should just go for Dixon every time and forget about the pitch. Basically, just keep hitting Dixon till he knocked him out of the game. Go for the injuries to win. HILARIOUS.
