How Much I$ Thi$ New Arena Going To Co$t Me?

December 18th, 2007

In case you missed it, here are some of the “RBAR” (Really Big Arena Report) highlights.

If you want to know how much the new arena might cost you, skip to page 7 (repeated on page 53) in the report. Now, these are potential costs. And even though they are not set in stone, I’m thinking that most of you will be wishing that not a stone is touched at Mac Court for quite some time.

You can find the specifics in the report. But here is a breakdown of the general/average numbers:

Now, are you ready for the “Aggressive” model?

What do you think? Some of these go higher. Some of these go lower. And some stay the same. Scim the report if you get a chance for more details.

A couple of things popped out with a quick glance:

- Portland corporations didn’t seem that interested in most of the seating concepts.

- The demographics for the Eugene/Springfield area ranked pretty low across the board.

Now, I’m going to go and stock up on Kleenex for all the nose bleeds I anticipate having in a couple of years.

How do these compare to Mac Court?

    Morgan -

We’re working on a comparitive chart. But the short answer is that Mac Court does not require a construction fee. And that’s a big chunk of change.

Got to go. Noise bleeding again.

I’ve stopped buying men’s basketball season tickets for two reasons:

    1. Cost alone NOW is too much $$ to bear.

    2. Distance from Salem to Mac Court in the dead of winter.

If the conservative estimates are what they are now, I can’t see affording much of anything for men’s basketball. Also, I know we all got free student tickets when we were students, but the unfortunate time may have come to start charging students a nominal, but affordable fee to attend games. It’s important to have a strong student section, but the kids may be the only ones going to games.

Yeah, charging the students will certainly generate enough revenue to build this new arena…not like they already pay any money to the university or anything like that!

    ouch.

$1400-$2000 for two upper bowl season ticket (either model) $48-$58/per game per ticket. that’s over twice as much face value.

alhutch, I realize you pay incidental fees as part of your tuition, but many other schools around the country pay to get into games, just like the rest of us paying adults.

That’s why a $35 per student season ticket would not be unreasonable for students to pay, in my opinion.

Check that, students pay to get in.

Student tickets are purchased by the ASUO. They end up paying for them through incidental fees.

So can someone explain to me the exact details of the construction fee? Because for the ignorant Duck fan (i.e. myself) it doesn’t self-explain in this model.

I was a student at Oregon, and sat mid-court, 2nd row, for several years. Best seats in the house. I had that experience, and I want future students to have that experience. I want the students to be as close to the court as possible. Making noise. Making our opponents hate playing there. Put as many students around the bottom bowl of the court as much as possible. I see that one of the end zones is all reserved seating. Great. Another big section of people, sitting on their hands, just like we have now in one of our endzones. Populate Mac Court with as many students and as close to the floor as possible. That’s what makes it special. The current Mac Court isn’t even close to as cool as it used to be. I hope that can be re-captured in the new arena to help regain the home court advantage.

Let’s see,….. 2 tix $1400. Amount of games you end up being able to go… about half (15 games). Selling the remaining ones, …. most of them. Others can’t sell due to last minute cancellation due to fight with wife over how expensive the seats are. Buying 5 tix for three in conference games so whole family can go and watching remaining games at Quackers or on my LCD with the Buds? Also a couple of non-cons courtside for $100 each ticket, with the other buddy paying his own way. Total of $1400….. no… not priceless But definitely more feasable and I don’t have to pay a construction fee.
