UPDATE: 10:27 a.m., January 11, 2008
Rob Moseley confirmed what we were reporting last night: Jonathan Stewart will be going pro.

Duck Sports News has learned from a source in the University of Oregon’s Athletic Department that Jonathan Stewart will skip his senior season and opt for the NFL Draft.

UPDATE: 8:03 a.m., January 11, 2008
UPDATE: 12:19 a.m., January 11, 2008
Well, I guess Duck fans are shooting the messenger. And that would be us, Duck Sports News.
Sorry, Duck fans. We’re not trying to rain on your parade. We’re only interested in conveniently making the most Duck news available to you. And it just so happens that on this occasion, we’re the shortest distance between two points.
But it looks like we’re getting a little backlash here for stating what was passed along to us. If it turns out we’re pulling a Herbstreit, we’ll probably not attempt the “reporting” business again and just stick to the “reporting on reporters” business.
I don’t think we are. If I had any reason to not trust my source, we would not have posted it.
UPDATE: 10:56 p.m.
Our source did not say anything about when he will make his announcement or the circumstances of his announcement. Duck Sports News simply received news that Jonathan Stewart has decided to turn pro.

What?! Say it ain’t so J-Stew!
There are too many other good running backs coming out this year!

How reliable is this information?

Extremely.

Mosely now has a post about this and is linking to your site.
I’m hoping that the information you received is from some undergrad intern at the athletic department and not from someone like, say, Pat Kilkenny or Mike Bellotti.

All I can say is that I have the utmost faith in my source.

Admin…if that is your real name,
Get over yourself, of course people are skeptical. Here’s a few reasons why:
1) People don’t know how reliable the source is because we don’t know who the source is.
2) You can’t find the story anywhere else on the net, not CBS Sportsline, not ESPN, not FoxSports, not CNNSI.
3) A lot of people are hoping it is not true.
People are only questioning things…and it was only 2 people that I see, so don’t get your panties in a wad and act like everyone is ganging up against you. If it makes you feel better, I believe you, I don’t think this is a website that benefits too much from making stuff up…Also, can we get some good beaver bashing blogs on here?

Robbie G. -
Thanks for the comments.
Here are a few thoughts:
- Admin is the DSN’s screenname. I am JJ.
- Skepticism is fine. All I know is that I’m not skeptical of my source.
- Thank you for the compliment. You’re right. You can’t find this anywhere else on the net. We’re the first.
- The backlash I was referring to was not specific to this site.
- I know people are hoping it’s not true. Although, I’m not sure I how stand on that. Selfishly, sure it would be nice to see him at Oregon next year. But I think it’s probably in his best interest to move on to the NFL.
- We’re big boys, here. Not worried about anyone ganging up on us. But in reality, we’re kind of the little guys.
- Thanks for trusting us as a source of information.
- And, no. We do not benefit from making something like this up.
When we received this information, we gave pause to posting it. We do not take this lightly. And it is precisely because it is not our thing to report.
There’s not a lot of upside to being wrong about something like this.
- JJ

as a golden bear fan i’m doing a little jig in my living room right now!
crenshaw and johnson are good but not as good, hopefully the bears can make it 3 in a row this fall!

The best of luck (not that he’ll need it) to our boy J-Stew. You were one of the greatest backs I have EVER watched at Oregon and your legacy will never be forgotten. Great athlete, great running back, great human being. You symbolized the epitome of what it meant to be a duck. Congrats

Bowl basaur, Jeremiah will make you eat those words. It is only a matter of the coaching staff getting the depth chart right so Crenshaw and incoming talent is there when needed. Another scary # 28 in the Pros. Good luck JStew

Thanks for all the good work. It’s too bad Stewart is leaving, but it’s exciting to have an Oregon blog break some news.
Keep it coming!

Yarno— grow up! Wish the guy well and get over it! You can’t fault the guy for leaving early. You are the moron for your selfish comment. I feel that the Ducks will be OK without him. We will miss him but REAL Duck fans wish him nothing but the best! Go Ducks!
Scott Reed Says:
January 11th, 2008 at 7:48 am
Dude, do NOT call him a moron… that is a ridiculous statement. OBVIOUSLY, if this is true (and that’s a big if), it indicates that his draft projection was favorable. Maybe he got word that McFadden was staying and that he would be the #1 back taken (right now the projection is that the Jets will take the top RB with the #3 overall pick)…
Nonetheless, making such a statement regarding Stewart, one of the LEAST selfish players in Duck history and someone who has struggled with this decision is just plain wrong.

I’m waiting for the news conference; to see it come out of Stewart’s mouth.

does he make it to #1 all time?
here is my top 5 (with some room for discussion of course)
1-Bobby Moore
2-Jonathen Stewart
3-Derek Loville
4-Reuben Droughns
5-Terrence Whitehead

Uh, DSN dudes…It’s January 11th, not the 12th. with accuracy like that, how can we trust your reporting? Just kidding! :-) Anyway, best of luck to J-Stew, whatever his decision. He’s a class act all the way.

I’m starting to believe that this information is probably accurate and that we won’t be seeing J-Stew in a Ducks uniform next year. Thanks for a great year and career Jonathan!
And to the crew at DSN - I know you’re taking a bit of beating on this one, but keep up the good work! This is the best site on the Net for Ducks info! Breaking this story will probably put this website onto lots of peoples’ favorites!
Go Ducks!

If Kezi or The Register-Guard or KUGN broke this story, everyone would consider it true without asking questions. It’s the nature of the internet, and blogs, that people are more suspicious. This day and age, that attitude should be put to rest.
joe Says:

In a way, I am glad he is moving on. While he piled up some big numbers this year, over his career, JS rarely delivered when we needed them the most. His “Glass Joe” mentality cut short a lot of promise. For that, his NFL career will be short. So jumping for the cash now is the right thing to do. We go to college to get a better job. JS will get a better job.
My top 5:
Reuben Droughns
Saladin Mccullough
Maurice Morris
Jonathan Stewart
Derek Loville

I agree that blogs and online news sites like this one are viewed more skeptically, but the other factor that you didn’t mention is that DSN is only citing an “unnamed source.” It would help if they at least gave some specificity of who they got the info from (i.e., someone in the S.I.D.’s office or the football office).
admin Says:
January 11th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Sorry. We can’t name the source.
- DSN
jtlight Says:

Don’t apologize about not giving the source. Whoever requests the source obviously knows very little about journalism or reporting. Most major news sources that break news do not give their sources.

I wasn’t asking for the person’s name, just some more specificity about their title/position.

Any word on when the press conference might be? I believe DSN broke this story, but I am still holding out hope that it’s not true. Until I hear J-Stew say it himself, I am (stubbornly) hoping for a change of heart. If not, good luck J-Stew. We sure enjoyed watching you! GO Ducks and thanks DSN for always having the most accurate, up to date info on Duck Sports anywhere on the net!!

it’s not that you guys BROKE the news, it’s that you thought it would be cool to go and spam all the other sites with your breaking news. so you got some flack and now you are asking for forgiveness on shooting the messenger? did ANY of you take a journalism class ever? doesnt’ seem like it one bit.
why not STICK TO YOUR GUNS, report YOUR story and not worry about what other people think? does ESPN have to go tell the world on their sites when news breaks? NO. the commentary updates are embarassing.
I can’t tell if this is DSN or the oregonians CANZANO reporting.
REPORT the story not the drama. if you dont like people shooting the messenger this isn’t the job for you.
good job in getting in right before anyone else but no need to get defensive after your henchmen were sent out to tell the world.
