DSN Feedback: What do YOU Want Us To Do Best?

January 11th, 2008

Feedback? We don’t need no stinkin’…

Actually, we do. More specifically, we want feedback from you.

Our coverage of Jonathan Stewart’s decision to enter April’s NFL draft has given us the opportunity to think about what you, the DSN visitor, expects from us.

Several friends of DSN have emailed us to inform us that we’re taking a bit of a beating in the forums and on the message boards for reporting this information from a very trusted anonymous source. I know they are just message boards and forums, but it got us to thinking about a couple of questions:

- Should we stay out of the “reporting” game altogether and leave that to the pros? Is simply linking to their stories without assuming their journalistic responsibility is good enough for you?

- If we do get information, do we just report the good news, not the bad?

- Do you want more? The ability to comment on stories? Email links? Get discussions going?

So, here’s a quick poll to get things started. But we’re always interested in hearing from you. And we’re always looking for ways in which we can make this site the best site for Duck fans.

- JJ

Keep doing what you’re doing! You guys are great and it’s nice to have one stop for everything up to the minute. Don’t change a thing.

You guys certainly shouldn’t be ashamed of reporting this news and you definitely shouldn’t apologize for it. Just keep doing what you’re doing. You should be proud of the fact that you were able to break the story before any of the old media sources (or new media, for that matter). There isn’t a better website on the Net - paid or free - for Duck info.

Your first bullet point assumes that the “pro’s” are reporting the facts and have earned the trust of the fans to report the “facts”.

Keep doing what you are doing and reporting what you believe to be true. No matter what the masses on the message boards say your source is a trusted and accurate source. The news you reported became official and those masses cannot argue that your source cannot be trusted. DSN is one of the best places to go for up to date new on everything UO Athletics and that is what I love about it. Keep up the good work.

Keep up what you’re doing. I have changed my homepage on my browser to you guys because you are consistently the first with up to date Duck info. Don’t apologize because you were the first to break the J-Stew story. I mean…Really?!? Gee, I am sorry we got the information before everyone else…next time we will wait and try to be last to post important information. That’s just dumb! You guys do a great job….keep it up!

I’d keep doing what you’re doing. But if you get a great lead on a story with a solid source, go for it. I think the ability to comment on stories would be a great addition. Keep it up though!

I think you did fine. You can’t worry about being bashed on the forums. And in looking at the one I belong to there really wasn’t any bashing. And as for requests to reveal your source…..to heck with them! That’s your source and you have to protect your source.
However I do hold you responsible for JS leaving.
By the way , I love the website.

how many people do you need to hold your hand? this is stupid. you filter comments, you don’t like what people say about you on other sites. your reputation is TARNISHED if you can’t handle the weeeeeee bit of flack accompanied it. now it’s off to make as many “admin” posts as possible and appeal to the masses for help. do what you do best and don’t ask questions. your either in it for all the right reasons and should expect hard times or you don’t have a clue what you are doing.

If you get the story go with it! I find myself addicted to your site for all information duck related.
The information is sound and give me a greater understanding of whats happening in the ducks world.
    Great job, keep it coming.

I love the service DSN provides. Headlines, headlines, headlines.

I don’t have time to surf for all the links that DSN provides so it is a beneficial service. Well, maybe I do have the time… ;)

Do them all, I especially like the idea of beaver bashing…any opportunity to beaver bash is well accepted in my books. I just love being able to pick on our little brother from the corn valley. Facts, headlines, and beaver bashing, I want it all.

I didn’t vote because I have to choose just one. Which one is to continue as you were? Don’t you currently do all three?

Pretty close to being the perfect website. As Matt (#6) said if you get a lead on a story from a solid source you have to go with it. I also think if you get information, reporting both good and bad news is the way to go.
You guys are doing a great job here at DSN.

Continue doing what you’re doing! I think your website is fantastic and I have checked it 2-3 times a day, every day, since it came out. Keep the information coming about Duck football (including recruiting), Duck basketball (including recruiting) and Duck baseball! I also enjoy the articles about the new basketball arena and the new baseball stadium. Thanks for all that you do. I really appreciate it. My wife even checks it out a few times a week!

I feel like I have a trusted inside edge on breaking news with you guys. Keep it up! Your stories are correct and you also let us as readers know when it is only speculation. Thanks for getting me addicted to quack.

I appreciate you reporting the good & the bad…with the exception of the “opinions, presented as facts” by Canzano. Our home is Canzano free & it’s the only link that we purposely skip over on DSN. Aside from that, I love how you profile multiple sports and “feed the need” for info about Duck football. Keep up the great work! And speaking of “opinion” - please consider dropping Canzano. Thanks!
