Seattle’s Dave “Softy” Mahler: Duck Fans Can Kiss My…

July 29th, 2008

By Jay Jones, July 29, 2008

Boys and girls, we’re still over a month away and it’s begun.

On Tuesday, new Morning Sports Page host Gavin Dawson pitch-hit for The Oregonian’s John Canzano and talked to Seattle-area sports talk show host Dave “Softy” Mahler on The Bald Faced Truth.  And “Softy” fired this year’s first shot early, and often.

All I can say is, “Wow.”

Duck fans, this guy hates you. You’re neanderthals. Morons. Drunks. And clowns.

Now, Dave, tell us how you really feel about Duck fans.

Here’s the link to the audio. Gavin’s conversation with “Softy” starts pretty close to the top.

At least he starts out by admitting that most of his comments come from being a “bitter old man that is tired of getting his A&$ Kicked”

I live in Seattle, and can tell you that the soft one doesn’t have much journalistic merit or talent to speak of. He’s so far off the radar this is a non-issue. Oh, and I understand sports radio guys are not supposed to be objective, but aren’t they supposed to hide their fandom a little bit?

You can’t blame him. We are a most hated rival and we have been giving them “the business” lately.

HAHAHAHA! Talk radio is such a joke. Yelling back and forth is the best.

It’s shocking to me that an obnoxious Husky fan would hate obnoxious Oregon fans. Every fanbase has obnoxious, violent, unintelligent, and/or ignorant fans. Let all of them get together and have some fun.

I do think Washington fans would have been much higher on this list, but the last few years have really sapped their sense of superiority.

the pain when excruciating is displayed with bitter words and shots across the bow. The words are definitely sour and his howitzer is red hot…hehehehehehe.

You’re right. Sports talk radio is a…

Oh. Wait. I guess I can’t say that anymore.

Since Neuheisel left, the Huskies, and their fans, have been somewhat neutered.

And Willingham’s reputation as a nice guy makes him, personally, difficult to dislike.

    Nice guys finish last?

More than anything, I think “Softy”’s comments reflect poorly on large-market local sports talk radio. You don’t hear that from the national big boys. Although, from what I understand, Dave is a literal and figurative big boy in the Seattle area.

His entire appearance just struck me as unprofessional and incredibly effective.

    We’re talking about him, right?

Dave “Softy” Mahler’s Sports Talk Show Tips:

    - Call rival school’s fans names on their media.

    That’s gold, Dave! Gold!

    Thanks!

Also a Seattle Duck. If Canzano were on, it would have really been a hate-fest. I don’t pay any attention to either of them.
