If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right?
Well, Duck Sports News ain’t broke. Or at least Ryan and I don’t think so. But after a year (Who would have thunk it?), Ryan and I thought that DSN was due for a little bit of remodeling.
On August 12th, DSN will still be the same great service, for the same great price (And that’s free, by the way.).
But it will look slightly different.
If DSN works for you right now just the way it is, then that will be the only difference you notice. Hopefully, you like the new look.
In addition to the new paint job, everyone visiting DSN will be able to take advantage of these new features we’ve built into the site:
HEADLINE RANKINGS: Every sports fan loves rankings, so we’ve created an up to the minute way to see what other Duck fans are reading by viewing the Top-20 headlines.
SHARE HEADLINES: If you find an article or conversation that might interest a friend, you can notify them by clicking a button. And you’ll have the opportunity to add a personal note before sending it to one or multiple friends.
CONTRIBUTE: Find a story online that other Duck fans would be interested in? We’ve got a simple and easy way to add headlines for all Duck fans to see.
COMMENT: You’ll be able to comment on any story on Duck Sports News. If you have an opinion on an article, or just want to let other Duck fans know whether or not it was worth the read, you’ll be able to add it to the comment section.
If, however, you want a little bit more from out of your Duck Sports News experience, we’ve added a some bells and whistles you’ve asked for and we think you might enjoy. All you have to do is register as a Duck Sports News member. It’s free and easy, kind of like DSN.
Once you’ve joined, here are a few of the benefits you’ll be able to enjoy:
SAVE HEADLINES: Too busy to read everything you want in one sitting? You can save headlines for later reference.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR SPORTS: As a DSN Member, once you’ve logged in you’ll have the ability to select only the sports and headlines you want to read. Only want football and volleyball? No problem.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR SOURCES: You’ll be able to block particular sources from showing up in your headlines.
In the weeks and months to come, we’ll be adding more new ways members can customize their Duck Sports News experience.
And, of course, we want to hear from you. Does it work for you? Did we miss something? Let us know.
Thanks for being a part of the Duck Sports News community.
We’re looking forward to moving into our new digs. Hope you can join us.

This is the first site I go to in the morning. Saves me and my company time and money since I don’t have to search the web for articles. Thanks guys.

This is great and there is nothing wrong with improving an already superb product.
I really like that I can now block Crapzano and Rodent sources within the customized list.

Question Mr. Jones…..
With this new format, would one be able to stand at the front counter and scan bar-codes on the back of a Billboard magazine?! lol
(Inside joke folks. Very Inside.)
Jay, how are you?
Nice job on the site young man. I enjoy both the content and delivery.
Hope all is well in your world.
Cheers,
Phil

Phil -
With the new format, you will be able to scan the bar-codes of anything from behind the counter, including Billboard, the latest Boyz-II-Men CD, or the most recent offerings from Green Day.
And all of it will go towards punches on your card.
But, first, would you like to pre-order Forrest Gump on LaserDisc?
Now, if we could work on getting that Mazzy Star in-store music to stop playing, that would be something.
I’ll talk to the manager about that.
Thanks for the compliments.

This is the first place I go to for my Duck info. I love it! The best thing about it is how easy it is to use. Please don’t make it difficult or complicated to use. Like you said, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…

Other than the look (which will be a cleaner, less busy, more streamlined version of the current DSN), DSN will function the same way as it has over the last year. If that’s all you want out of the site, that’s all it has to be. But if you want some extra features, they will be there for you to take advantage of starting on the 12th.
Thanks,
Jay

Hopefully this change will include letting go of some of the people who have slanted opinions that are negative towards all sports within DSN.
Right Jay?

We’re not looking to let anyone go. Actually, we’re looking to expand the DSN, One Click Sports News team. And, hopefully, those individuals who would like to join us enjoy sports.

I was hoping that DSN would cut several of their staff to make room for John Canzano. I know that there are some hard feelings for John at DSN, but I really think he would add a very high opinion and correct opinion of our Ducks. He would also contribute the advocacy of all sports in general and not a jaded view, that sometimes (in my opinion) resonates within DSN.
Just my thoughts.
Just trying to make this website better for all of us.

If John Canzano were added to the staff of DSN, there would be no DSN. Visitors to DSN have made their feelings regarding Mr. Canzano very clear.
Actually, we’ve had to build in a feature for the next version of DSN (which will be online Tuesday, August 12th) to accommodate requests by Duck fans who would prefer not to read his columns.
My (not DSN’s) opinion regarding Mr. Canzano varies from column to column. Unfortunately, I think that’s indicative of the fact that Duck fans don’t know where this guy is coming from on a consistent basis.
As far as advocating sports on DSN is concerned, we cover all Oregon sports, including club sports. You will not find that anywhere else.
I (not DSN) just happen to have taken a position regarding wrestling that has made for interesting discussions here on the blog.
We appreciate you wanting DSN to be a better resource for Duck fans. Take that interest to the next level and sign up to be a member starting tomorrow so you can contribute headlines and do all sorts of fun stuff on the new version of DSN (online Tuesday, August 12th).
Thanks for the comments.

I think that there should be a push to get Kilkenny to get his degree once and for all!
As Phil would say, “Just Do It, Pat”. Pat’s example of not having a degree is harmful to all student atheletes. Can one imagine if Pat does set the example and get his degree, how far that would go? I would have a whole lot of respect for this man if he did!
