REWARD: The UOSportsDude got the $20 Gift Card to Oregon Sports at the Gateway Mall. Nice job on tracking down the video.
UPDATE: Well, I think this little episode is coming to an end. The video is now posted on a service that is not YouTube. And if it is removed from there, it will pop us somewhere else. So, have fun playing this game of cat and mouse.
Until then, enjoy the video.
(I’ll sort out who gets the gift card tomorrow.)
UPDATE: Looks like Supwitchugirl has posted the video on Facebook.
UPDATE: While the Athletic Department does not want “I love my Ducks” on YouTube, they don’t seem to mind it making an appearance on GoDucks Live with Jerry Allen.
Skip to the last few minutes for the video.
Let me just make one note about this video being a part of Jerry’s show: if the video was OK for the show, why isn’t it OK for YouTube?
I think this is a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
I should have done a better job of looking into where this video originated from before I posted this entry. But the fact that it was on Jerry’s show this morning makes everything that follows all that much more perplexing.
Again, supwitchuoregon?
Here’s the original post…
By Jay Jones, One Click Sports News
Earlier today, Duck fans visiting YouTube got to smell the Roses.

Then Duck Sports News linked to the music video, featuring the Duck mascot, produced by the group Supwitchugirl.
Once DSN linked to it, everyone in the University of Oregon’s Athletic Department knew about it (because Duck Sports News is the home page for quite a few in the Athletic Department at the Cas Center).
And that included the Marketing Department.
From @AndrewGreif.

While the Marketing Department did not approve, Coach Kelly seemed to like it.
Again, from @AndrewGreif.

But within a couple of hours, it was gone, made “private” on YouTube.
More from @AndrewGreif.

However, it seems that the Athletic Department was willing to play the mother of all trump cards: contacting YouTube.

This lead to a reasonable question from @AndrewGreif:

(Note: Link on UOSportsDude.com does not work, either.)
Self-proclaimed insider @MightyOregon suggests it was a chain-of-command issue:

And then @MightyOregon goes on to make a legitimate, albeit decidedly unfun, point:

Leaving no room for interpretation, the group Suwitchugirl created a Twitter account and posted the following tweet this afternoon:

And their position was further clarified with a comment on YouTube:

Is it the best music video in the world? No. But it’s probably the best one these kids have ever produced.
Is it fun? Yes. A lot more fun than the countless “O”s and Ducks that adorn many a local business store front in the Eugene-Springfield area (most certainly without permission).
Is it good for Oregon? Sure. Fans seem to like it. And it is a much better use of Oregon imagery on video than the numerous occasions it pops up on local commercials (in the form or a hat here or a shirt there – again, probably without permission).
In the great tradition of Carroll-Harbaugh, I have to ask the University of Oregon Athletic Department, what’s your deal?
Or as the kids like to say, supwitchuoregon?

Help Duck Sports News (along with Robert Stack) find this missing video. Duck Sports News is offering a $20 gift card to Oregon Sports at the Gateway Mall for a working link (that remains working) to the “I love my Ducks” music video.
If you have any information leading to the safe return of this missing video, please email us here.
We thank you for your cooperation.

Saw it on youtube. pretty good. I hope they play it on the jumbotron at the end of the OSU game when the crowd is chanting “Rose Bowl” and we’re all going crazy knowing we just clinched the Pac-10 title!!

I found this video this morning and was ecstatic to share with my fellow duck fans. Hopefully the Univ. will reconsider it’s position on this because it’s such a shame to lose a great video that promotes the love of Oregon ducks. There was not one single derogatory remark/scene and the duck mascot was used in a respectful way. Very sad.
I’d rather this go viral than the stupid Blount punch shown over and over again. Where was the university fighting to get all that off youtube?

Get the vid back in circulation. I AM The Duck, the Duck that counts.
Give the fans those tears of joy!
Be a Duck. Not a dork!

Pulling the video is yet another great decision by the Oregon Marketing Department.
This ranks right up there with their attempt to stop the grass roots call for a black-out on Halloween.
(Can you tell this post is drippin’ with sarcasm?)

I think the athletic department is being strict because they don’t want disney to get upset and pull the duck permanently. Seems silly but imagine us without it.

Can’t they retroactively approve it?
It could go viral (what counts for viral in west coast football) and is the kind of thing that will be seen all over. What a waste.
I saw it and thought it was hilarious, cool, and completely unobjectionable. Something the University could have produced officially.

sfduck-
If Disney is concerned with the duck’s image they would have terminated UO’s rights to the duck back when he kicked the crap out of the cougar and got suspended.
Instead they made a video about what he did during his suspension- and that was ok!

If the athletic department had any sense, they would play this video on the big screen prior to the Civil War.
And I don’t get the reason for the dispute. This is a non-commercial use of the Duck, fundamentally no different than if I put together a string of clips of the Duck I filmed at games, during rallies, whatever. This has the Duck dancing around. I bet there are 1,000 videos on YouTube of the same thing.

Everyone needs to bombard the Marketing department with calls about this. Currently myself and other DAF members are putting together a petition and a complaint letter. Also e-mail ESPN as this story could get picked up and that would be awesome it this would get played on GameDay.

Angie Sit just did not like somebody doing her job and getting the ducks some great coverage. A local video by local kids. I can just see the entire stadium singing “I love my Ducks”. The worst thing for her and the best thing for the ducks was that she tried to stop it. If disney does not like it, than let disney decide. She needs to stop before she keeps embarrassing herself, bring those boys in and thank them for making her job easier.

Let’s see, there’s no swearing, there no b**ch slapping, it’s a pretty darn clean video that’s takes the eyes of the world off of LaGarret Blount. The UO Athletic dept. needs to realize some darn good marketing when they see it. Why are they so blind. If Disney doesn’t care then the UO athletic dept. shouldn’t either.
Lighten up UO athletic dept. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

Play this video during the Civil War, that would be great and would definitely pump up the team before the big game!
