The Sports Commercial Everyone Is Talking About

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Jay, here.

You won’t find this city on any map. But it’s somewhere between Sin City and Rip City.

Only half of you can be residents. But it’s population is growing.

And once you find your way there, it’s really tough to leave.

What city am I talking about?

I’m talking about Snip City, baby.

800px-open_reel_audio_tape_recorder1.jpgOver the last couple of weeks, you might have heard the Snip City Chamber of Commerce (Oregon Urology Institute) ads running on Eugene’s ESPN Radio 1320 “The Score”. If you’ve heard the audio cut, all of this makes sense. If you haven’t heard it, you can listen to it here.

OK. So, do we all know what we’re talking about now? Yes, that’s right. As Bob Welch called it in this morning’s Register-Guard, we’re talking about the “Big V”: a vasectomy.

frozengreenpeas.jpgProduced by Prevedello & Associates, Inc., a local advertising agency, “Snip City” is voiced by 1320 “The Score”’s Sports Idol, Justin Myers, and is in heavy rotation on the station. If you like Jim Rome, Dan Patrick, and local sports talk radio, you’ve heard it countless times. Even though Justin has received some ribbing on his show for voicing the spot, I have no doubts that he conducted himself in a slightly more professional manner than Orson Welles did in another famous “frozen peas” spot.

Duck fans, “Snip City” isn’t going anywhere. So, anticipate hearing this campaign again next year, probably around the same time. But unlike Governor Tom McCall’s warning, the Snip City Chamber of Commerce invites you to visit…and then stay in the same spot for a couple of days.

Now it’s time for a shameless plug!

Regardless of whether or not you’ve “lowered your seed for the tournament”, this year there’s no excuse to leave your brackets blank.

Sports Idol Justin Myers Supports Sea Bass Campaign

Monday, February 25th, 2008

UPDATE: Some visitors are wondering what is the point of “The Return of Sea Bass”. I might be a little late with an explanation, but I think I have one. And it’s not that bad. Take a look at the comments below for more. But the bottom line is that this event could become a fundraise for a charitable or non-profit organization. And Josh just might do it. But there would be a lot of work to do. And it’s going to take some time, support, and help. Show your support and sign the online petition.

Jay, here.

Last Friday, I got a call from Justin Myers, the Sports Idol on Eugene’s ESPN Radio 1320 “The Score”. I thought, “This is great! Justin wants me to come on his show next week.” Immediately, I tried to anticipate what Justin would want to talk about with me. Ducks’ basketball? Spring football? The Oscars? Whatever he wanted to talk about, I knew I needed to be prepared.

Well, I wasn’t prepared for the real reason he was calling: he wanted to talk Sea Bass.

I’ll let Justin show and tell.

Hello Duck Fans!

I am writing this letter to officially throw my support behind Joe Giansante and his campaign to bring “Sea Bass” back to the squared circle for one night only.
As you can see, I was a fan of Sea Bass from day one. This picture is from the Douglas County Fairgrounds (I am the one in the blue hat) in 1997 (Oh, the good ol’ days!) when Sea Bass made his Northwest tour. I don’t know if I would be the man I am today if not for the lessons of Sea Bass.

Josh, your fans need you for one night only!

Please join the campaign. We must have Sea Bass back, if only for one night.

Justin, it looks like it’s a campaign now. Head on over to ‘Sea Bass Should Return For One Night Only’ and sign the online petition calling for the return of Sea Bass.

“The Writers Block” Debuts Today At 2:00p.m.

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Do you have writer’s block?

Well, George Schroeder does.  Starting today.  And you can, too.

Beginning today at 2:00p.m. on KSCR 1320AM in the Eugene/Springfield area,  Cumulus Broadcasting debuts “The Writers Block” with The Register-Guard’s George Schroeder,  and Justin Myers.

George is a friend of DuckSportsNews.com.  Considering the state of sports talk radio in the Eugene/Springfield area, we would encourage you to check it out.  I don’t think this area has heard anything like him before.

Get “Writers Block” before your friends do.  It will be well worth it.
